tusday 22nd october 2013, police lerning.

Tuesday 22nd October 2013, a police detective came to the after school care building. It was very similar to a video game, such as looking for clues, like the gun on the ground, blood/ sauce and footprints. The man talked about what would happen if someone got shot. He said it was ‘Joe’ so the detective asked Joe if he did it. The detectives would then compare shoes and the gun. I knew some of the things all ready, but it was great! (Even the rain stopped in the middle)
It was fun to know what a police detective does!

5/6N Visits Mansfield Street Kindergarten

On Thursday the 19th of September 2013, Mrs Naismith and Mrs Cusack had organised for 5/6N to walk down to the Mansfield Street Kindergarten to meet our kinder buddies and give them a little gift.

That day it was raining but stopped luckily just before we left for our short journey to the kinder. We were hoping the rain would lay off the whole time we were walking there and it did just that.

As soon as we arrived all the kinder kids were so happy to see us again and we hadn’t even given them their gifts yet. But they were all so sad as well because their budgie, Princess Fiona, had just died and they had just buried her. After that sad news we all  wandered around and found our past buddies. My buddies name was Jessica she was gorgeous, Gemma and I shared her.

First of all Jessica, Gemma and I found a place to sit, then we gave Jessica her gifts, they were books that we had made in class and they looked awesome. I made a book called ‘I love Animals’ and Gemma’s book was called ‘At Kinder’ The children really liked them because they were colourful and because they were simple. We even taught Jessica how to read the books!

After everyone had given and read their book to their buddies we found something else to do Jessica. Gemma and I drew pictures and Jessica drew me one to keep.

Then Jessica got bored of drawing so we went to the sand table. If you’re wondering it is a table where you draw a picture with glue and then you pour coloured sand on top of the glue. Then you tip the remaining sand and it reveals your pretty picture in colourful sand ( pretty cool). Jessica made Gemma and I a sand picture too. Mine was a butterfly and Gemma’s was a person.

Time flies and it was nearly time to go, so Jessica showed Gemma and I around her kinder. She showed us pratically everything from animals to these microscope things that made you look like you had 17 faces.

After all that fun we said goodbye to all of our buddies and gave them a hug and walked back to school.

5/6N’s Visit to the Craigcare Nursing Home

On Friday the 30th of August, all of 5/6 N  walked to the Craigcare Nursing Home to say a big “HAPPY FATHER’S DAY” to all of the lovely gentlemen. We all coloured in ties to give to them as a little present and it really made their day because some of them didn’t have family coming to visit them on Father’s Day.

Kiah said, ” I was really nervous when we first walked into the nursing home.Even though the man ( Ian) I gave my tie to couldn’t talk, he was always smiling and laughing so it made me smile, it really made my day and also really warmed my heart”.

Caeden stated, “At the start I wondered what it would be like but at the end of the day I was really happy I had made someone else happy”.

Jake commented, “Seeing all the ladies and gentlemen at the Craigcare Nursing Home was really important to not only us but the ladies and gentlemen too. We made some Father’s Day ties and cards, to give to the men. When we gave our cards to the men, we all agreed we had a warm feeling in our hearts. It was great to meet all of the lovely people”.

Ish said, ” I was really scared when we were going to Craigcare. I never knew I could be that proud of myself and I felt really happy when they were happy”.

Erin stated, ” I loved visiting the Craigcare Nursing Home! I mostly loved seeing the tears of joy and the big smiles on the elderly’s faces. It was a great day and I would love to go again!”.

Book Show Bag Expo

Book Show Bag Expo

On 22nd of August 2013, it was Book Show Bag Expo for the grades 5’s and 6’s.

People commented on other people’s work.

My show bag was about Skylanders Spyro Adventure and the Machine of DOOM.
Cayleb from 5/6N commented, “I really like everything you’ve done with it.”

And my Mum said, “You have done a great job Max keep up the great work.”

And Eric from 5T wrote, “Very interesting, I love it.”

Cayleb’s Mum wrote, “I loved it Max, you did a brilliant job.”

Lachlan  from 5T commented, “Very good Max very excellent.”

Everyone was excited about the Book Show Bag.

But I left sometime in between 3:00 or 3:10pm so I don’t know what happen when I left.

And I have about 20 people who wrote comments for me about my show bag.

Purple Buddy Day!

Today at Berwick Lodge we had our National Buddy Day which is a day when everyone dresses up in purple and celebrates the Alana and Madeline Foundation.

Later on today we are having a “car rally” for the preps because they’ve  been learning about road safety, so as part of their education topic we have made box cars with them.

I have enjoyed sharing a prep buddy with Gemma. Our prep buddies name is Kendra and together we have been making a box car that has mirrors, lights and a steering wheel and today she is going to drive it with Gemma and I being instructors.

Having a prep buddy is a great experience in grade 5 and 6 because you get to help them learn and they always make you happy!

Science Open Night!

On 22nd of May we had our Open Night here at Berwick Lodge Primary School as we we’re getting ready to show our families and friends our work that we have done and completed since term 1 but the main thing that our class wanted to show off was science. We each got put into different groups and the people in my group were Suvi, Jake and I. Jake was away but Suvi and I still did our book about electricity. Suvi’s part was explaining why humans use electricity and my part was what is electricity. After all that we designed our book for Open Night but even though I didn’t go I herd it was fun

My Science Experiment

The grade 6’s in 5/6N were studying electricity, while the grade 5’s were studying light. For our science experiment, Mrs Naismith moved us into groups. In mine there were, Hayden, Nathan and myself. Our group could choose any type of electricity for our experiment. Hayden and I looked for an experiment to make. We decided to make a maze with these pieces of equipment:

2 sheets of foil

1 square piece of coloured paper (on our maze we used orange)

1 piece of cardboard (the same size as the paper. You can always slice it up)

3 lines of wire

1 light bulb

1 battery

1 piece of contact

1 stanley knife

We made the foil the path of the maze, while the coloured paper made the whole maze stand out. Here is the information I typed up in my own words:

Insulators and Conductors

Our body is a conductor, especially when we are wet. That is why we never touch electrical appliances while wet. A conductor allows electricity to pass through. We use conductors to move electricity from one place to another. We use insulators to stop electricity reaching dangerous places. Electricians wear rubber boots to prevent getting electric shocks from wires. Metal wires conducting electricity are insulated with either rubber or plastic to make it safe from electric shocks.

Why it Works

The aluminium foil conducts electricity, and makes the maze able to be completed. The bulb glows , only while the nail is not touching the plastic inside. The reason is because plastic is an insulator. A conductor must contain charged particles that can move around. These electrons pass on the current. These electrons in plastic cannot move around. Therefore plastic is not a conductor.

Opaque By Shenae

What is opaque? Opaque is where you can’t see anything thourgh it. For open night , Nihaal and I did an experiment. The experiment was, ‘ An opaque’. For the experiment, we made a card game. We used coloured  paper and a torch. We put the torch down on the table and the paper and we didn’t see the light thourgh the paper. If you can’t see an object it’s opaque.

Digital Citizenship

I have signed up for some programs, like Edmodo, and I have made sure I did not give away any personal information like my password or my date of birth. On some websites you can have an option of giving that information. I always look in my emails to see if anyone has written in that I either do not know or are not writing nice things about me or anything. I will always block them so they cannot write to me again, aswell as deleting that email. I would never write anything bad to anyone and I would never write to anyone I don’t know. I recommend you also block them, for your safety.

Thankyou for reading my post and I hope it helps you keep safe on the internet.
